Amy Marui
My creative process is an adventure through my own emotions and experiences that have come to define me.
About Me.

Amy Marui is a ceramic and mixed medium artist whose works explore the relationships we have with ourselves, others, and the world. The excavation through these memories takes place using a variety of materials she is drawn to.
Her figurative works appreciate the beauty of the human form while using it as a vehicle to examine the struggles of mental well-being.
Through her work with clay she constructs bodies that intermingle with each other, creating a conversation with their interactions and the environment.

Working towards open conversations about feeling different, forgiveness, the complexities of relationships, and the importance of support during mental crises is the goal of her art pieces. Dismantling the taboo around these topics using visually softening colors enables a smoother translation of the darker content in her work.
Marui's work appreciates the nuances of the human experience, striving to dismantle stigmas through a visually softened lens. Ultimately, her art invites reflection, empathy, and a deeper understanding of each other.
Education
2016-2025
Bachelor of Fine Arts
University of British Columbia
Okanagan
Completing my degree in the spring 2025, focusing my academic interest on Japanese: art history, gender and sexuality studies, and folklore religious studies. Developing and refining my ceramic sculpture practice to create new ways of working with the medium. Expanding outside of the traditional curriculum, introducing a passion for pottery which was not present previously.
